8 Smart Ideas For Organizing Tiny Toys

Tired of stepping on tiny toys? Try these ideas for small toy organization.

If your kids are anything like mine, they have tiny treasures all over the place. Small characters, Hot Wheels, playset pieces, fidgets, and all the little collections of tiny treasures can be touch to keep corralled. Here are some different ideas I’ve used to help keep those tiny toys organized!
Many of these little collections are things my kids play with often so I need organizers that are easy for toddlers to open and easy to put toys away inside. These can all be carried around the house and many are even great for tossing in a diaper bag or taking along in the car.
8 Small Toy Organizers
1. Hard Sided Zipper Containers

These clear cases work well for organizing all sorts of toys. I have the a few in the medium size and we’re currently using them as storage for fidget toys, Barbie clothes/accessories, and Peppa Pig playset characters/accessories.
It’s easy to see what’s inside since they’re clear and the hard sides make them nice and sturdy for filing side by side on a bookshelf or cube shelf. Your child will need to be able to operate the zippers–ours took a few zips open and close to break in and then my three year old was able to handle the zippers no problem.
I have the medium size but they do also come in a few other sizes if you need something smaller or larger/deeper.
2. Caboodle Cases
The caboodles we used as kids are amazing for storing tiny toys! If your child loves to carry their collections of tiny things around with them, I bet they will love loading all of them up in ones of these cases.
I love the case I linked here – comes in four awesome colors, has a great carrying handle, and has two upper trays for tiny items and a larger bottom compartment for even more stuff. My three-year-old and seven-year-old both love these!
3. Mesh Zipper Bags

These zipper bags have been a go-to organizer for me for years. You’ll find them useful all around the house, but especially with toy organization. The zippers work well and the mesh design makes them surprisingly durable–I’ve yet to have one tear!
These zipper pouches come in a variety of sizes and are super inexpensive. I’d recommend purchasing a variety pack with multiple sizes. It works great to store a few pouches of toys in a larger basket or bin, and they are also easy to fill up and take along in the car.
4. Mini Crates

I once heard that every kids’ room needs a junk drawer, and I’ve found that to be so true! Kids tend to collect a lot of small toys and tiny treasures that they don’t want to part with. These obscure collections can be touch to organize, which is where the “junk drawer” concept comes in: basically, give your child a specific spot to toss all of their random treasures.
These mini crates are great for corralling tiny toys. Line up a few on a bookshelf and let your kids fill them with whatever they want, no labels or sorting required. This creates a designated spot for all of the random toys to go when cleaning their room. You can stack a couple on top of each other, and they’re even collapsible if you end up with one you’re not using and want to save space.
And bonus points: these are from Dollar Tree so they’re crazy affordable!
5. Accessory Pouches

When you’re organizing toys, make sure to look beyond toy-specific organizers. Zippered pouches such as makeup bags, planner pouches, pencil bags and travel cases can all work really well for organizing small toys.
I stumbled up on this cute round accessory pouch in an aisle at Michaels and my three-year-old has filled it up with so many different toys.
6. Small Caddies

Caddies are most commonly marketed as a way to organize cleaning supplies, but they can also be great toy organizers. They usually have nice handles which are great for kids who want to tote their little toys all around the house.
This small white caddy is from Dollar Tree and has three compartments, but you can find lots of styles of caddies in different sizes and compartment options.
7. Pencil Cases

Hard sided pencil cases are an inexpensive toy organization idea. You can find pencil boxes in tons of cute colors and designs, and they are a really great size for small toys. Plus they’re easy to stack or file on a bookshelf or cube shelf.
The steel pencil case shown here comes in amazing classic colors but fair warning that it’s a little pricey, but the nice thing is you can easily find cheap pencil cases at most stores!
8. Pencil Bags
Pencil bags are another way to organize small toys. Just like pencil cases, pencil bags also come in endless colors, designs, and styles. They are easy to fill with small toys and toss in a diaper bag on your way out the door, plus your kid can easily handle a small pencil bag in their lap if they’re playing in the car.
I found these adorable jelly pencil pouches at Michael’s recently and I’m obsessed with them! The jelly material makes them a little more rigid than your typical thin fabric pencil pouch so they may be a bit easier for little kids to hold open while they’re filling them with toys.
Phew, that was a fun list to put together! Tiny toys can be annoying to organizer, but the good news is there are lots of inexpensive storage options to choose from.
